Who We Are |
Just For Corvettes (JFC) is an active Corvette club located in the Sacramento area. The club was founded in 1996 by nine corvette enthusiasts and currently has 40 members with 29 corvettes. The purpose of the Club is to encourage planned trips, events, and social activities for members and provide and regulate events and exhibitions for Corvette owners and other interested parties. We encourage and promote the Corvette with enjoyment and driving being in the forefront. Club activities include cruises, fun runs, social activities, dinners, other local community events, and car shows benefitting local charities. Our annual Redhawk, “Vettes for Vets” car show is considered one of the best Corvette shows in northern California. To find out more about our activities please visit our events calendar to see what we have planned for the year. New items are always being added. Guests and prospective members are always welcome to attend any of our meetings or club events.
JFC is a non-profit IRC 501(c)(7) (id# C2083703) organization registered with the State of California and the Internal Revenue Service. Club History
33 years after the introduction of the 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, Chevrolet released the 1996 Grand Sport model. It was the final sendoff to the C-4 Corvette. The Grand Sport was limited to 1,000 cars, 810 coupes and 190 Convertibles. It was also the same year that the “JUST FOR CORVETTES” club started in August.
Several members of an Auburn, California, based Corvette club decided that they had a sufficient number of members who lived in the immediate Sacramento area to justify their own club. The original nine members of this new club were Kenny Yerkes, Jim and Debbie Nance, Sharon Roloff and her friend Sharyn, Joe and Vickie Sanchez, Fred and Janine Fenton. Joe Sanchez, is credited with naming the club, JUST FOR CORVETTES (of Sacramento).
The club started meeting at “Lacey’s Grill” in Rocklin, but the club soon outgrew Lacey’s (now closed). From there they went to “T-Bones” on Madison Avenue (now closed) and then moved to “T-Bones” on Arden Way (now closed). The club replanted themselves to Sudwerk’s German restaurant on Expo Boulevard. In October 2002, Sudwerk’s closed its doors (it has reopened at 2001 2nd street Davis, CA 95618).
Since then the club has met at the following: “Coco’s” (now closed) on Arden Way. “Memphis BBQ” (now closed) off I-5 and Richards Blvd.. "McGee’s Bar & Grill” (now closed) on Sunrise Blvd. which then became “Barbacoa’s” (now closed). "N Zone” (now closed) in North Highlands and “El Torito’s” (still in business) across from Arden Fair Mall. The last known location was at the “El Coyote Junction” (now closed) on Jibboom Street (off I-5 and Richards Blvd.) in Sacramento. Our current meeting place is at the “Black Bear Diner” in Natomas (CA). Location is on the home page with a map.
Kenny Yerkes served as the club’s first President during 1996 and 1997. He was succeeded by Fred Fenton in 1998, and Bob Martina serving as Vice President. Fred Fenton resigned in early 1998 with Bob Martina taking over as President for the remainder of calendar year 1998. Jim Hudson served as Vice President for 1998. Jim Hudson became President for 1999. Jim Vollstedt lead the club for 2000. Larry Herrback served as President of the club during 2001 and 2002, and was re-elected to the post for a third term in 2003.
Then in 2004, JFC had its first female President, Diane Hussey with Bill Reeder and our Vice President. Bill and Diane “traded” places for 2005 with Bill as President and Diane as Vice President. Joyce Taylor, was voted in for President in both 2006 and 2007. Her Vice-Presidents were Debbie Nance (2006) and Jim Nance (2007). For 2008, Jim Nance was our President and Melvin Clouser, Vice President. Our 2009 Board was led by Melvin Clouser as President and Debbie Nance as Vice President.
Gary Becton was one of the early members, and helped the club through the incorporation process that was completed in March 1998. Membership during the early years was sparse, with the original club consisting of only 9 members. Our largest membership was in July 2003 when we had 117 individual members.
Our annual “Hooter’s” car show started in 2006 and ran for 14 years. We had to suspend the show in 2020 due to Covid-19. The show never returned when Hooter’s closed their doors forever. We now put-on the “Vettes 4 Vets” car show at the Redhawk Casino in Placerville. Proceeds from the show went to local charity.
2009 was also the first year that our annual “Vetts For Vets” car show began at the Redhawk casino located in Placerville (CA). It has become a stable foundation for our donations to a local Veteran’s home. Unfortunately the rest of our club’s history went missing from 2010 to 2017 and gone forever. In August of 2017 our current (second) web page was up and running.
In March 2020 Covid-19 struck everyone very hard and meetings were suspended for just over one year. Meetings resumed on April 8, 2021. Today, JUST FOR CORVETTES has 40 members with 29 Vettes – a great group for you to enjoy and have MORE ‘VETTE’ FUN with!
